Commercial Break: M1 Procar Police Chase

The BMW M1 came to be because of racing.  BMW wanted to create a series that would support Formula 1 race weekends. Said series would also star current Formula 1 drivers.  That series came to be called the Procar BMW M1 Championship, and  during a Formula 1 race weekend, drivers would take a quick break from driving their open-wheeled F1 racecars and hop into the M1 to race one another.

In this clip, there are no former F1 drivers; it features the traffic cops from the German TV show, Alarm für Cobra 11 – Die Autobahnpolizei.  After the two cops use hay bales to stop bullets, a baddie hops into the cockpit of a Porsche 917 LeMans racer and books it. The traffic cop hero likes the look of the BMW M1, remembers his police academy training, and gives chase.

Right. We all know how bad drivers gawk when a regular squad car makes a stop, so here’s to the motorists stuck in traffic while people give this stop an obnoxious stare.
