BMW M3 E30 Coupe

Listen up, E30 M3 fans. According to BMW Group Design Director Adrian van Hooydonk, a brand new model will be “inspired” by that iconic enthusiast machine.

He stated, “The E30 M3 has a really big fan base, and we are going to be taking cues from it for a future product.” Van Hooydonk added, “I’d have to give Colin Chapman the credit for the ‘performance through light weight’ mantra, but that was another big factor for the E30, and that is also a priority for us.”

Right now, we believe the model of which van Hooydonk is speaking is the upcoming BMW M2. The M2 is set to be a return to the old ways of BMW. It will be small, relatively lightweight, and rear-wheel-drive – very much a modern iteration of the E30 M3. The rumor right now is that the new model will debut next year in time for BMW’s 100th anniversary. It might appear in Frankfurt or this November’s LA Auto Show.
