BMW M1 Sells at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction for $577,500
Monterey Car week recently wrapped up, and big news out of the BMW camp was the 1981 BMW M1 that sold for over half-a-million bucks at an RM Sotheby’s auction. Henna Red paint covers this car, which has completed just under 8,000 miles. Its condition has been well preserved due to the previous owner keeping it in a Museum in Japan. Original condition means this car is more than just a survivor, it is also a veritable time capsule. The history of this car likely makes it one of the best-preserved examples of any M1.
You may remember a previous article in which Canepa Cars here in the States had a 1980 BMW M1 for sale. That car had covered just about the same amount of mileage as this example. Both are the same Henna Red color and have the glorious M88 inline-six engine. If you missed the chance to buy one of these bad boys, we’ll be on the lookout for more prime examples, as it looks like it might be time to snatch up the next one you see as an investment.
