Check out this epic drag race at Auto Club Famoso Dragway in the video below. It may not look like a fair match up when you look at the weights of these two cars, but this BMW M5 has a bit of tuning up its sleeve. And while that ZO6 Corvette may be the second fastest of the C6 generation, it might not be as stacked as you think.

Before you look at the video, let’s look at the numbers. The Corvette ZO6 comes from the factory with the LS7, a naturally aspirated 427-cubic inch (7.0-liter) V8 with dry-sump oiling. That engine produced 505-horsepower and the car weighed in at 3130-pounds for a power to weight ratio of 6.2-pounds per horsepower.

The BMW M5 (F10) left Germany with the 4.4-liter S63. A V8 turbocharged to 21.76-psi cranks out 560-horsepower and the car weighs in at 4288-pounds for a power to weight ratio of 7.66-pounds per horsepower, a 1.46-pound per horsepower disadvantage. Well, from the factory. Thankfully our M5 in question has been tuned for more power and now this drag race is pretty equal and comes down to the drivers.

Wheel spin costs the Corvette time with a 12.69-second quarter-mile time at 117-MPH versus the BMW M5 with an 11.64-second/131-MPH win.
