Big X5M Versus Little 1M
BMW has received a lot of flack over the last two decades after it expanded its range to include SUVs and more luxury aligned cars. Many have said that the company has lost its way. That the company’s lineup doesn’t really include any of the lightweight sportscars that it was once known for, and that the fascination with the SUV has diluted the brand’s image.
I myself have leveled this complaint many of times, but I would be remiss in my duties to not show off the clip below. Here’s the primer, what happens when you pit an X5M against the only lightweight sportscar BMW has produced in the last decade, the BMW 1M? Well, you get one hell of a show.
Here are the specs, the X5M has a grand total of around 575 horsepower, but it weighs nearly three tons. The BMW 1M makes just 340 horsepower, but weighs about a quarter of the weight. So what happens when you line them both up for a drag race? Let’s find out.
