To the Untrained Eye, the New 5-Series May Not Differ Much From Its Predecessor, But This Will Show You Otherwise

Like most German manufacturers, BMW isn’t a fan of drastic change. BMW prefers to go about things in a relatively cool, calm, and collected fashion. After all, that’s the German way. That being said, just because year-to-year changes aren’t wildly noticeable, it doesn’t mean they’re not there. Furthermore, it never means they aren’t significant.

Take this awesome video by BMWwhich shows us the vast design differences between the outgoing 6th-generation 5-Series sedan and the incoming 7th-generation. The video starts by showcasing the headlight housings, and pointing out their new shape, as well as the new lights within them. The traditional “angel eyes” daytime running lights give way to sharper, semi-circle-ish shapes.

Side note: does anyone think the new DRL pattern looks like the metal hooks used to hang bicycles from the ceiling?

Moving on to the front fascia, more specifically the kidney grille. The newly-designed kidneys extend to the sides until they touch the headlights. In addition, the flaps within the kidneys can open and close for aerodynamic efficiency. In the rear, the taillights are much wider and narrower, and now fully wrap around to the side of the new 5-Series.

It looks like BMW has outdone themselves once again. Enjoy the video, and let us know which one is your favorite (or least favorite) 7th-generation attribute!
